WATERS EDGE CIVIC ASSOCIATION- Board Meeting- 7/28/24
Attendance was taken. The Pledge of Allegiance was said. Meeting commenced.
Old Business:
The Board asked if anyone is still interested in having a Police representative come to a meeting to discuss issues. So far only 2 topics have been brought up – Speeding and Break-ins/Security. Only 4 people were in favor so this has been tabled. Fred will call the Sgt. To ask for more patrolling of the area. Members were again told that speed bumps are out of the question. Re: Overgrown properties, it was suggested that we send a letter to homeowners responsible and ask if they need assistance with maintaining their property. The use of Fireworks was also brought up. There was an occasion after 4th of July. The suggestion is to approach those responsible and ask if they can shorten the usage and make it less noisy by using different fire works.
David W. was asked about the website. He needs more content. It is ready to go but there is no info. He asked for photos and anecdotes about the area from residents. Lori will write a newsletter for the website. Fred will ask on FB if anyone has history of the area or other information pertinent to the community. We will check the Royal Canal Association for info as well.
The Left turn petition is put on hold until the fall.
Fred discussed the plants at the sign on Royal Ave. They are looking overgrown and unkempt. He, along with Lori F. and Donna G., will go to Felix’s on Horton and Middle Rd. to purchase perennials that are deer resistant and shade tolerant.. The new plants will require less maintenance and water. The members agreed on purchasing the plants.
The block party is still on for Sept 7th from 1 to 4 pm, with 1-2:30 being time for face painting and kid’s entertainment. Instead of a “block party”, it will be held at Fred and Lori’s backyard because we were not informed that we needed 90 days for the permit. The entertainer is paid for. The community end of summer party will include games, snacks and ices, and raffles. We are asking members to contribute to baskets or make a basket related to families…..these items can include things for a snack/movie time basket; a kids toy basket; household goods basket; party basket; gardening basket; etc. Any donations can be brought to 147 Temple Marie Marino. We have 2 families that agreed to donate a basket.
New Items:
Fireworks issue was discussed in full. We will inform the Community police to see if anything can be done.
Kurt announced that the town has sent Engineers for the end of Sylvan where the road is completely torn up from past storms. Gabions are gone. The town has no funds buy can dump sand….4 dumploads on each beach/end of roads in the area. There is a project in the works for Longneck and Royal Ave beaches to build a wall and pumping systems to help with flooding.
The road at Royal Ave has been paved and the pothole was fixed. The town was thanked by Mary. It looks very nice now.
New Member introduced himself. We thanked him for coming.
The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be Sept. 1, 2024 at 10:30am on Temple Ave.
