WATERS EDGE CIVIC ASSOCIATION- Board Meeting- 6/2/24

Attendance was taken.  Dues were collected.  The meeting was called to order.

Old News:

·         There was an explanation of the No Left Turn on Royal Ave.   Discussion ensued.  This is a fact-finding mission to see if the WECA members are in favor of it.    There was a suggestion to place a sign at June and Royal to notify people to use Longneck for left turns, if the sign on Royal is granted.

·         A member brought up the issue of having the meeting on a Saturday instead of Sunday.  A vote was taken.  9 members were for Sunday meetings.   3 Persons were neutral.  2 members preferred Saturday.   Meetings will remain on Sunday with maybe a Saturday now and then.

·         The new bench has been affixed on the Temple Ave lot.  A trail cam has been suggested and approved by the majority of members at the meeting.

·         Sand on the beaches was restored.   The wheels are in motion to place rocks to help stop erosion.  Grass cannot be removed.  Gabions may be needed and the Association WECA will be responsible for building steps for access to the beach.  This will come out of the funds we collect.   A majority of members at the meeting were in favor.

·         The current steps on the beach have been repaired by Fred.

·         Kathy J. has sent out condolence cards and is running the Sunshine Club.

·         The proposed Block Party is still in the works.  We received an insurance quote for the event that is reasonable.   There was suggestion of it being a Pot Luck.   We are also talking about food truck or ice cream truck,  which the community can purchase food from.  We need a permit from the Fire Marshall once the insurance is secured.  It was suggested that we have one porta potty for use.  Fred is getting the Non Profit certificate so that we may have Police Dept fees waived.   There was suggestion of a baking contest with ribbon and prize.

·         The website domain has been purchased.  David W will be the website master.  It is not published yet.  He is putting together some historical facts and photos.

New Business

·         Jim Cain will be leaving our community.   We all wish him well and success.  He will always be welcome.

·         There was a comment about adding speed bumps and the continual issue of cars speeding up and down our blocks.  Fred added that speed bumps are not allowed due to snow plows and Kathy J. mentioned that it is also not good for transporting boats.  Temporary speed bumps were suggested and Fred will call the Highway Dept.   A temporary electronic sign was suggested as well.

·         A member asked if we could get a spokesperson to come to speak at our meeting re: issues like speeding, and other violations in the area.  Fred will call Police Dept for more information.

·         Mary C.  informed us that there is a large pothole on Royal Ave.   She will call Highway Dept to report.

·         The community library has been built and we are just waiting for installation.  It will be on the lot at 141 Temple Ave.   It’s for the use of everyone in the community.  Please donate a book.   There will be adult and children’s books available.

·         We have 226 homes in Waters Edge.

·         Cathy A. mentioned that a letter was placed on her door re: the length of her grass and mentioned a fine.   No one else has received a letter.  She was unsure who put the letter there.

·         Fred thanked everyone that maintains the lots in the area.

·         Donna G.  has the watering can for the plants at the sign.  Kathy J. will trim the plants and help with watering.

·         Chuck M.  spoke about the signs below the WECA sign on Royal.  Plants are blocking the information.  He volunteered to add hooks and move the meeting sign up.    He also volunteered to maintain batteries at the Trail Cam.

·         Gloria mentioned that we should translate information into Spanish for our Spanish speaking neighbors.

Meeting was adjourned.
